Well done all!!
It's for Charity - Captains Run preparation update
Well we're on the eve of the Yeovil Half Marathon and my effort to raise money for St Margarets Hospice - I therefore thought I should give a brief update.
Training has been going.........ok, I've run a few long runs and I think the legs have enough to get me round.
Things I've learnt:
- I'm no Mo Farah
- In fact I'm no runner!
- 22km/13 miles is a blooming long way!
But I keep reminding myself 'It's for Charity', I will get round, it will hurt and when I've finished I'll probably colapse in a heap.
To everyone that's sponsored me and to those helping me gain sponsorship and supporting me with words of encouragement and wisdom - thank you very much!
Once I've completed the run I'll be hounding some of you for your donations, plus posting a photo or 2 (depending how I look) on here and the social network sites. If you've not sponsored me as yet, there's still plenty of time to do so (even after I've completed it!)
Have a great weekend golfing, especially now the weather is improving, don't forget to change your clocks so you don't miss your tee slot!
Captain Runs for St Margaret's Hospice
I'm running to Raise money for the Hospice
I do hope everyone is keeping warm and has had a chance to get out on the course at somepoint despite the Snow!
I'm looking for everyones support in raising some money for St Margaret's Hospice, on Sunday 31st March I won't be teeing it up like normal, oh no. Instead i'll be limbering up at the start line of the Yeovil Half Marathon. I'm not sure what an earth prompted me to run 13 miles for fun on Mothering Sunday but that's what i'm doing.
Training is going............ well i'm out trotting around a couple of times a week but it's not sufficient to be breaking any records, I'm no Mo Farah that's for sure, anyway I'm hoping to get round in...... No i'm just hoping to get round!
So how can you help - I'm asking you all to help sponsor me. As little or as much as you can would be fantastic. I'm hoping to raise £500 which I will then add to our charitable pot for the year to go to the hospice. How can you do that?? Follow the link below and donate as much or as little as you can afford.
I hope the weather improves and we can all get prepared for the season ahead soon, I also hope everyones getting their heads around the new rules, i'm still trying to!
It won't be long and the sun will be high in the sky, we can get the jumpers packed away for a few months and enjoy Golf again.
see you all soon
Rules Rules Rules
Rules Evening - is that a penalty?
On the evening of Wednesday 28th November our resident PGA referee Paul Deeprose hosted an evening on the 2019 Rule changes. A very informative session with a great turn out from 82 club members.
The evening consisted of a run down of the principle changes to the rules for 2019, from dropping from the knee to putting with the flag in. Paul negotiated all the hazards and provided anecdotes from his time refereeing on the European and Euro Pro tours. Paul took questions throughout the evening and managed to enlighten many of our golfers on rules that haven't been rules for years but they were still using.
The Chef did an excellent job in catering for us all with a lovely Cottage Pie.
Paul rounded out the evening with a small quiz on the rules, he chucked in some tricky questions to catch us out but in the main we all managed to get some questions correct.
I'd like to offer up my thanks to Paul and his team, plus the club for allowing this evening to run, the turnout was fantastic and just goes to show the type of club we have at Long Sutton.
Hopefully the weather doesn't dampen the spirits of our members too much in the coming week and we're able to get some golf in pre-christmas
